Who is ‘Sensei’ ERic Sears?
Bio
My name is Eric Sears, I have dedicated my life to training and studying martial arts and developed practical skills and ideas that can apply to real world self defense situations! I am here to help people empower themselves to become more confident, strong willed and well capable individuals to defend themselves or avoid altercations all together! I train and teach through interactive seminars and workshops for independent groups and businesses, but also one on one or small groups on more focused topics directed to the people at hand! My methods are taught in traditional martial arts AND streamline combat systems as I learned both ways to be very effective!

My experience
Taekwondo
January of 2018 I first started in US Chung Do Kwan Taekwondo, the largest and oldest association of Taekwondo established by Sr. Grandmaster Edward Sell, under the instruction of now Grandmaster McDowell and later started training both with Master Dancer and GM McDowell. As I progressed through the ranks I became confident enough to compete. I went to the 2019 USCDKA Nationals and competed in the Advanced Rank Division. I Competed in 4 events winning Traditional Poomse, Open Weapon Forms, and Traditional Sparring. A few months later I tested for my first degree Black Black in September of 2019. As years progressed I continued to refine my skill and technique to become the best I can be at what I do. As of September 2024 I am a 4th degree Black Belt Master in Taekwondo, still actively training, teaching and learning!
Karate
In June of 2019 I started training is Shorin Ryu Shidokan, an Okinawan style of karate. I trained this style of karate under Seikichi Iha Sensei 10th Dan. His Dojo was the headquarters of the Beikoku Shidokan Association, the association he started in Lansing Michigan in the 1970s. I continued to train wth Iha Sensei as much as I could, going to his Karate classes numerous times a week trying as hard as i could to learn the real traditional karate! In my time at the Dojo there were not any competitions or tournaments, but Iha Sensei would hold regular seminars which I would attend all of them or as many as I could. In 2021 I tested for my Shodan (first degree black belt) and in 2023 for my Nidan (second degree black belt) under Iha Sensei. On August Third 2024 Iha Sensei passed away at 92 and my training will continue on and pass on what he showed me.
Tai Chi
In 2022 I met one of the last 6th Generational Yang style Tai Chi masters from the original lineage, Master Xu. Not much longer I would join his class and learn the curriculum, In his class we would work on the yang long form (three circles), yang style saber, yang style sword, and chen style sword. After years of training I became proficient enough to show others the material that we would work on in class with Master Xu.
Weight Lifting and Other Martial Art Training
Ever sense I started training in Martial Arts I also pursued weightlifting as a supplement to my training. I’ve dabbled in various methods of weight training to find out what works for me, and can help people find out what works for them! with the weightlifting I am also training in various martial arts such as Jiu Jitsu, Judo, PTK-SMF, and Yamani Ryu Kobudo.
